PETR CECH: Did everything asked of him with minimum fuss, although his kicking was a little off tonight. 6/10

CESAR AZPILICUETA: Right-back complemented a sturdy defensive display with some dangerous forward runs. Harshly adjudged to have brought down Valentin Stocker, allowing Basle to net a late penalty. 6

JOHN TERRY: Chelsea captain impressed in defence, reading the game well on his return to the starting line-up. 7

BRANISLAV IVANOVIC: Can take a lot of the credit for Victor Moses' goal and defended with aplomb. 8

ASHLEY COLE: Back in the side after a hamstring injury, he showed his class by nullifying Mohamed Salah, the man that hurt Tottenham in the quarter-finals. 7

DAVID LUIZ: Pushed into midfield to accommodate Terry, the Brazilian put in a composed performance and scored the all-important stoppage-time winner. 7

FRANK LAMPARD: The England international was fairly ineffective tonight but his passing was accurate, finding a team-mate with 87 per cent of his balls. 6

RAMIRES: Forced a fantastic first-half save from Yann Sommer and was full of energy. 6

EDEN HAZARD: Started brightly but tailed off and missed a gilt-edged chance late in the first half. 6

VICTOR MOSES: Proved a threat on the flanks and netted the opener, although he did not know much about it. 7

FERNANDO TORRES: The Spaniard has enjoyed the Europa League and was full of running throughout. He was unfortunate to see a shot come back off the post in the second half. 6

JUAN MATA (Hazard, 70): Brought a freshness to Chelsea going forward but did not have enough time to make an impact. 6

OSCAR (Lampard, 79): Scooped over the bar when he should have found the target. 6
