ENGLAND

JOE HART (Foster, 46 mins) - Had little to do, but was powerless to keep out Shane Long's stunning first-half header - 6

GLEN JOHNSON (Jones, 46 mins) - Provided a real outlet for England going forward - made one vital challenge on Aiden McGeady - as he teamed up with Theo Walcott down the right, but was caught flat-footed by Long's prodigious leap - 6

PHIL JAGIELKA - Missing in action as Long gave Ireland the lead, but generally comfortable after the early setback - 6

GARY CAHILL - Similarly not in the picture as the visitors went ahead, but largely solid and made a vital penalty area challenge on McGeady just before the break - 6

ASHLEY COLE (Capt) (Baines, 54 mins) - Lively going forward and stubborn in defence, denied a memorable goal by Seamus Coleman's second-half clearance - 7

MICHAEL CARRICK - Tidy in possession and always available, he kept England moving forward - 7

FRANK LAMPARD - Another who saw plenty of the ball, was always involved and as so often in the past, turned up in the right place at the right time to draw his side level with his 29th international goal - 7

THEO WALCOTT - The pick of the bunch for Roy Hodgson's men, gave full-back Stephen Kelly a torrid time, producing a series of teasing crosses and forcing keeper David Forde into two important saves - 8

WAYNE ROONEY - Influence on the game grew as it wore on, although he was perhaps fortunate not to concede a penalty for a rash challenge on Robbie Keane - 6

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN - Another who warmed to his task, was a threat after the break and might have won it six minutes from time - 7

DANIEL STURRIDGE (Defoe, 34 mins) - Provided the cross from which Lampard levelled, but departed prematurely with a damaged ankle after a challenge by Glenn Whelan - 6

SUBSTITUTES

JERMAIN DEFOE - Saw little of the ball in the final third, but kept the Irish defence on its toes and created one good opportunity for Walcott - 6

BEN FOSTER - Largely unemployed after replacing Hart at the break - 6

PHIL JONES - Worked hard to get forward early in the second half, but found himself having to defend as the Republic made a late push - 6

LEIGHTON BAINES - Drilled an early free-kick into the defensive wall, but never really imposed himself - 6

REPUBLIC OF IRELAND

DAVID FORDE - Made two important saves from Walcott twice and Oxlade-Chamberlain to ensure Ireland left with a share of the spoils - 7

SEAMUS COLEMAN - Ireland's star man, provided the cross for his side's goal and made two vital clearances at the other end - 8

JOHN O'SHEA - A calming presence at the back as England mounted a concerted assault - 6

SEAN ST LEDGER - At fault for England's equaliser, but recovered to make a series of vital interceptions - 6

STEPHEN KELLY - Not an evening the Reading defender will remember fondly with Walcott in particular causing him problems throughout - 5

JON WALTERS (Sammon, 82 mins) - Teed up Coleman to cross for Long's goal, but otherwise found himself largely trying to deny England width - 6

JAMES McCARTHY - Some nice touches in a midfield battle largely dominated by the home side - 6

GLENN WHELAN (Hendrick, 74 mins) - Worked as tirelessly as ever to protect his defence - 6

AIDEN McGEADY (McClean, 68 mins) - Gradually worked his way into the game after feeding off slim pickings, but spent much of his evening attempting help Kelly out defensively - 6

SHANE LONG - Claimed his ninth senior international goal with a superb header and made sure Cahill and Jagielka knew they were in a game - 7

ROBBIE KEANE (Capt) (Cox, 66 mins) - Contributed the first shot of the game, but struggled to get involved as the Republic saw less and less of the ball - 6

SUBSTITUTES

SIMON COX - Joined the fray with Ireland largely on the back foot and was unable to make any real impact - 6

JAMES McCLEAN - Whistled a free-kick past the post, but contributed little else of note - 6

JEFF HENDRICK - Played his part in a concerted rearguard action as time ran down - 6

CONOR SAMMON - Not on for long enough to have a real impact on the game - 5
