JOE HART: Busiest England player by far. Stopped it being a cricket score by half-time. 9.

GLEN JOHNSON: Made a mess of a clearance in the first half, almost allowing Neymar to score, but looked good going forward. 6.

PHIL JAGIELKA: Kept Fred and Hulk quiet for most of what was a long night for the England defence. 6.

GARY CAHILL: Performed well enough, but clear he will need time to form better partnership with Jagielka. 6.

LEIGHTON BAINES: Put in a good early block on Neymar before coming off with an injury. 5.

PHIL JONES: Did okay performing the hardest job on the pitch keeping Neymar and Oscar quiet. 6.

MICHAEL CARRICK: Drifted in and out of the game as he did against Ireland. 6.

JAMES MILNER: Played a part in England's second goal and put in a typically workmanlike performance, particularly in the second half. 7.

FRANK LAMPARD: Not one of his best performances in an England shirt. Lucky to get away with late tackle on Oscar in the box. 6.

THEO WALCOTT: One of England's brightest options going forward. Pace and energy troubled Brazil. 8.

WAYNE ROONEY: Looked isolated up front, but came up with the goods in the second half - albeit thanks to a big deflection. 7.

ASHLEY COLE (on for BAINES, 31mins): Thrown in to action early on and performed reasonably well. 6.

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN (on for JOHNSON, 61mins): Fantastic goal to level the scores. Added energy and drive. 8.

JACK RODWELL (on for WALCOTT, 84mins) No time to make an impact. 5.

JULIO CESAR: Could do little about either goal and otherwise had very little to do. 6.

DANI ALVES: Got forward well and tested Hart with fierce shots. 7.

DAVID LUIZ: Will be disappointed to be part of a defence that conceded twice. 6.

FELIPE LUIS: Had little to do before being taken off at half-time. 6.

THIAGO SILVA: Got forward a lot. Not as comfortable defending though. 6.

LUIZ GUSTAVO: Another who had a quiet game due to England's failure to get forward in the first half. Withdrawn at half-time. 6.

PAULINHO: Had a quiet game until he drove home Brazil's equaliser. 7.

OSCAR: Tested Hart in the first half. Unlucky not to get a penalty. Surprisingly taken off after 55 minutes. 8.

HULK: Pretty lacklustre game from the former Porto striker. 5.

NEYMAR: Faded in the second half, but was irresistible in the first 45 minutes. 8.

FRED: Not as good as he was at Wembley, but still showed good reflexes to score Brazil's opener. 7.

MARCELO (on for FILIPE LUIS, 45mins) One of Scolari's good substitutions. Created space for Brazil's opener. 7.

HERNANES (on for LUIZ GUSTAVO, 45mins) Another good change. Rattled the bar before Fred finished to put Brazil 1-0 up. 7.

LUCAS MOURA (on for OSCAR, 55mins) Provided assist for Brazil's second. 7.

FERNANDO (on for HULK, 72mins) Unwittingly deflected Rooney's shot over his own goalkeeper. 5.

LEANDRO DAMIAO (on for FRED, 79mins): Showed little promise during time on pitch. 5.

BERNARD (on for PAULINHO 85mins): No time to make an impression. 5.
