Luka Modric believes that Gareth Bale would "fit perfectly" into the Real Madrid team as speculation continues about the Welshman's future.

Bale has been linked with a move away from Tottenham for some time with Real and Manchester United just two destinations that have been mooted.

Reports linking the 23-year-old with a move to the Bernabeu have been relentless with former France international Zinedine Zidane describing him as one of the top three players in the world last month.

Modric played with Bale at Tottenham before moving to Real last summer and thinks the player would fit seamlessly into the team.

The Croatian told Marca: "Since Madrid is the team of the galaxy, Bale would fit perfectly, we could really use him.

"He would give the team another dimension. His shot, his strength, his speed, his offensive power.

"He is the type of player who will help us take a step forward."

He added: "It is a complicated issue for me because I was with Tottenham.

"I can tell you we're friends and he is an exceptional player. I guarantee it.

"And whether the club is Real Madrid, Tottenham or another, they can only win if they sign a player like that.

"If it is Real Madrid, it's better for us."

While Bale has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital the future of Cristiano Ronaldo has been in the spotlight.

The Portugal forward prompted speculation his future lies away from Real yesterday by insisting that reports he has signed a new contract with the club are "false".

Madrid president Florentino Perez has made re-signing the Portugal international his top priority but with reports circulating that a deal was close, the 28-year-old, who has been reluctant to enter talks, took to Twitter to say this was not the case.

"All the news about my renewal with Real Madrid are false," Ronaldo said.

However, Modric fully expects to be playing alongside Ronaldo next season.

When asked if he believes the former Manchester United favourite will sign a new contract, Modric laughed and said: "Yeah, yeah, of course."

The 27-year-old also eulogised about Ronaldo who has impressed him above all others at Real.

"It's hard to just stick with one but when you have to you pick Cristiano Ronaldo," he said.

"It's amazing the passion with which he trains every day, how he takes people on, he is an excellent professional.

"Then you see the quality of Ozil, Xabi, Benzema ... but if I had to pick one..."

Modric also reiterated he would not be leaving Real despite being linked with a move to Chelsea, now managed again by his former coach Jose Mourinho.

He said: "I have no doubt. I want to stay at the best club in the world. For me it is a privilege to be here.

"I want to show a lot more in the future and I (would not) consider anything other than white to continue next season."
