Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic will miss the first six weeks of the season with an ankle injury picked up in pre-season.

The Serbian suffered the problem during the Blues' Barclays Asia Trophy triumph, but the games were marred by heavy rain, with the bog-like pitch hindered players throughout.

Losing the centre-back will be a blow for new City boss Manuel Pellegrini, having already lost Kolo Toure to Liverpool, leaving him with just Vincent Kompany, Joleon Lescott and Micah Richards, who can operate in the heart of the defence.
