One weekend down in the Premier League and the bosses have something to go on in the transfer market with Tottenham showing no sign of stopping their spending:
Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas could seal the first part of a sensational double with the purchase of Brazilian international Willian. The Anzhi Makhachkala attacker is part of the Russian club's fire sale and the Lilywhites are thought to have got a jump on Liverpool for his £30m signature. (Daily Telegraph) Not only that, with Gareth Bale still seemingly destined for Real Madrid, Tottenham could use some of the moolah to rescue Radamel Falcao from his Monaco "nightmare". The Colombian striker is apparently angry at broken promises from the Ligue 1 club concerning his mega bucks summer switch.
Arsene Wenger is under even more pressure to loosen the purse strings after the shock 3-1 home defeat to Villa on Saturday with 17-year-old PSV Eindhoven winger Zakaria Bakkali the target. The Belgian U21 international has seen his value rocket after a blistering start to the season in Holland, however Wenger is a big fan and will need to see off Chelsea and Manchester City for his services. Liverpool could bolster their defence before the end of the August transfer window with a move for 23-year-old Mamadou Sakho from French champions Paris St-Germain. They face competition from Serie A giants AC Milan for his signature, nevertheless a decent bid could see him Anfield bound. (Daily Star)
Having seen his chairman turn down Manchester United's £28m double bid for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines, Everton boss Roberto Martinez could return to his former club Wigan to secure the services of midfielder James McCarthy for £15m. (Daily Star)
