Manchester City take on European champions Bayern Munich in Champions League Group D on Wednesday. Here, we take a look at some of the game's key battles.
VINCENT KOMPANY v MARIO MANDZUKIC
Kompany has returned from injury in superb form for City in the past fortnight, not only defending brilliantly but bringing shape to the back line and all his usual authority. He may need to be on song as he comes up against the strong and bustling Croatian Mandzukic who, playing in front of Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller and Franck Ribery, helps form a formidable attack.
PABLO ZABALETA v ARJEN ROBBEN
Right-back Zabaleta's surging runs and reliable defence were one of the prime features of City's football last season but he cannot afford to be caught out against tricky former Chelsea star Robben. As with Ribery on the right, the Dutchman is a big threat down the left.
YAYA TOURE v PHILLIP LAHM
Toure has enjoyed a fine start to the season, his new partnership with the steady Fernandinho allowing him greater freedom to surge upfield. He is likely to come up against Lahm, who is also in fine form. The German may be renowned as one of the world's great full-backs but coach Pep Guardiola has deployed him centrally, in front of the back four, this season and it appears to have been a successful move.
