Man United will look to put their awful Premier League form behind them tonight when they take on Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk in the Donbass Arena.

Even without Saturday's shock home defeat by West Brom, it would still have been a tough task against a side that put together a 49-game unbeaten home record before they were beaten by Juventus last December.

Here, Press Association Sport looks at the key battles that will need to be won if United are to gain a positive result.

DARIJO SRNA V NANI

Vastly experienced Srna is Croatia's captain and Shakhtar's defensive rock. Back after suspension following his dismissal against Real Madrid last season and indifferent so far this term, Nani needs a performance.

BERNARD V RAFAEL

This promises to be an exciting showdown between two attack-minded Brazilians. Twenty-one-year-old Bernard was part of the squad that won the Confederations Cup this summer. Rafael will be keen to show he should have been.

ALEX TEIXEIRA V NEMANJA VIDIC

Another of Shakhtar's Brazilians, Teixeira scored both goals in the win over Real Socieded a fortnight ago and is a clear threat. Vidic's credentials have been questioned this season. United manager David Moyes needs a captain's performance from the Serb.
