Roy Hodgson knows the score, and it's a simple equation: beat Poland at Wembley Stadium on Tuesday evening and England will qualify automatically for the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.
England's impressive 4-1 defeat of Montenegro on Friday means that the Three Lions remain top of Group H with just one round of fixtures remaining. But they are not out of the woods yet.
If England only draw or lose against Poland, then Ukraine – who face minnows San Marino in their last match; it's pretty much a guaranteed win for Ukraine – will top the group, leaving England with a hazardous two-legged play-off to negotiate. It's worth noting that Poland can't now qualify for Brazil 2014, which should benefit England.
