Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp shocked Real Madrid sold Mesut Ozil to Arsenal

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp told ITV's Gabriel Clarke he was surprised Real Madrid were willing to sell German playmaker Mesut Ozil to Arsenal.

The international midfielder has been impressive for the Gunners since joining for a club record fee on transfer deadline day, scoring three goals in nine appearances.

Asked what he thought of the Ozil deal, Klopp said: "I couldn't believe it was the truth. It's not my job to sit and talk about these things, but if you have the opportunity [to sign Ozil] you have to try."

Klopp is in awe of Ozil's ability, saying he's a very rare talent in world football.

"He's fast and a brilliant technician. It's not often you get these things together, that's why Cristiano didn't find the idea [to sell Ozil] so good."
