Germany legend Michael Ballack believes that his country can "definitely" win the 2014 World Cup.

Speaking to ITV Sport's Harry Hesp, the former Chelsea midfielder said: "Germany can definitely win the World Cup in Brazil.

"They flew through the qualifying campaign but it will be interesting to see how they deal with the pressure because there are very high expectations around this team – and we all know that a European team has never won in South America."

But long-term injuries to key midfielders Sami Khedira and Bastian Schweinsteiger may weaken the German team considerably, if neither recovers in time to play a part next summer.

"It looks bad for Khedira and Schweini but hopefully they can both be there," Ballack added.

"Khedira was a banker to play in defensive midfield as he's so important to the balance of this team.

"So if another player comes in for him then the team will have to change tactically. Perhaps one of the two Benders (Lars and Sven, who both start against England) would be the best pick to replace him."
