Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti had admitted he made a mistake by allowing Mesut Ozil to join Arsenal during the last transfer window.
The Gunners secured a club record £42.5m deal for Ozil in September 2013 after Gareth Bale moved to the Bernebeu for a world record fee in excess of £100m.
Ozil has since settled well in North London, helping his new team mount a serious assault on the Premier League title for the first time in five years.
Speaking to Gulf News, Ancelotti said:
"I think we made a mistake when we gave him the possibility to leave the club. However, we have fantastic strikers and don’t need a back-up after Higuain’s departure.”
Arsenal travel to Aston Villa this evening knowing a victory will send them back to the top of the Premier League table.
Paul Lambert's men are the only side to escape from the Emirates with all three points this season when they shocked Arsenal on the season's opening day.
Since then, the arrival of Ozil and a run of seven league victories and two draws at home have helped convince pundits that Arsenal are capable of winning their first Premier League title in ten years.
