Striker Wayne Rooney is expected to have a pain-killing injection in his toe so he can play for Manchester United in their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

Defender Rafael (thigh) and midfielder Marouane Fellaini, who complained of feeling dizzy during the 4-0 Barclays Premier League win at Newcastle, were absent from United's final training session.

Patrice Evra (knee), Ryan Giggs (hamstring) and Ashley Young (hand) took part despite their injury concerns. Midfielder Juan Mata (cup-tied) and striker Robin van Persie (knee) are unavailable.

Provisional squad: De Gea, Lindegaard, Rafael, Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Smalling, Evans, Buttner, Giggs, Carrick, Nani, Young, Fletcher, Valencia, Kagawa, Fellaini, Januzaj, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck.
