Real Madrid winger Bale: We never gave up on Champions League title

Champions League winner Gareth Bale hailed his team's character after Real Madrid were victorious in Lisbon.

The Welsh winger scored his side's second goal in their 4-1 win in Lisbon on Saturday night.

"We showed great character and got a late equaliser and we had the momentum from then on.

"It was a very difficult game. It was fantastic just to win," Bale told Gabriel Clarke.

"We showed perseverance and that never say die attitude."

After missing a number of chances in the opening 90 minutes, Bale was relieved to finally get one on target, after Sergio Ramos had dramatically equalised in injury-time of normal time.

"The manager said at half-time in extra-time that we needed to push forward and let the defence do their bit. Angel [Di Maria] ran forward and I was there to just pop it in.

"We showed great character and got a late equaliser and we had the momentum from then on."
