You’ve got to love Luis Suarez. You might expect a player serving a four-month ban to disappear quietly into the background, but Liverpool’s Barcelona-bound striker continues to loom large even when sidelined. That is especially true for Arsenal, who have apparently agreed a four-year deal for Chile winger Alexis Sanchez, but can’t finalise their move for the Barca man until the Catalans are sure they have Suarez as a replacement (Express).
Still, don’t imagine that Arsene Wenger is twiddling his thumbs while waiting for the Suarez deal to go through, possibly this weekend (Mirror). The Arsenal boss is rumoured to be lining up a bid for Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, and may also be interested in Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin (Mail). Lest that should create congestion in the middle of the park, Mikel Arteta – who only has a year remaining on his contract – may be offloaded to Fiorentina for £6m (Times).
Liverpool, meanwhile, not content with losing one striker, may be about to bid adios to another, with Iago Aspas apparently on his way to Sevilla (Daily Star). Serbian international Lazar Markovic is on the brink of completing his move to Anfield, however, and could be joined in due course by Swansea left-back Ben Davies (Telegraph).
Talking of left-backs, Chelsea have apparently patched up the Ashley Cole-shaped hole in their defence by splashing £20m on Atletico Madrid’s Filipe Luis (Sun). And, with Patrice Evra seemingly on his way to Juventus,Manchester United are eyeing Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez (Times).
United boss Louis van Gaal is also interested in Wesley Sneijder, for whom Galatasaray will demand £16m (Mirror).
