ITV pundit and former Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend says Roman Abramovich's refusal to publicly back boss Andre Villas-Boas is adding to the instability around the club.
"The owner has been incredibly generous with his money, but today Andre Villas-Boas is in a precarious position at the club...and yet the silence is deafening for him," Townsend said.
Meanwhile fellow pundit Gordon Strachan says that for a young manager, working without the support of his employers makes a difficult job even more stressful.
"At Celtic I had an assistant manager, chief executives who were good to me and the chairman who was good to me," Strachan said. "You need that, and I don't know if [Villas-Boas] gets it."
