Another week, another load of rumours about me. I’m more in demand now as a 39-year-old than I was when I was 24!
The latest one is linking me with a move back to Aberdeen and I can honestly say I don’t know where this has come from.
I had a great time when I played up there, look for their results and still go back every summer to go for a drink with the friends we made up there, but I don’t think I’ll be going back to play football there. In fact I’m not looking to go anywhere.
After my personal disappointments of the past few weeks I’ve had a chat with Phil Brown the manager and he says he wants me to stay around the place. We’ve had a dip in form recently and he said my experience will come in very useful and, touch wood, I could be involved against Man City on Sunday.
Three defeats in a row means there could be changes in the line-up and I’m chomping at the bit to get involved – although I’m not the only one. There’s a few other players who’ve yet to get a chance trying to catch the gaffer’s eye.
It’s a sign of how far we’ve come that we were so disappointed by the defeat to Bolton. They are the sort of club we should aspire to be like but we were expected to beat them. Unfortunately we came up against a goalkeeper who had one of those days.
Our recent run has been a bit of a reality check for the club and I’ve always said no matter how well things are going, football always has a habit of kicking you in the teeth. What’s important now is how we respond and what better way to get back to winning ways than a game against Manchester City and all their Brazilians in front of the TV cameras.
They’re also not having the greatest of times at present and I’ve seen reports that Mark Hughes is under pressure, which I think is a load of rubbish because he’s done very well and we know we’ll be in for a tough game.
With Robinho in their team they’re obviously a very dangerous side but in the Premier League if you don’t perform on the day you lose, and we’ll be confident of beating them.
Despite the losses, the atmosphere around the training ground will be good this week with everyone, including me, hoping they’ll have a chance to put things right.
