Dec 22nd: We need some Christmas luck

I remained on the bench during our 4-1 defeat to Sunderland from Saturday and from that vantage point I thought we were unlucky.

I've been banging on all season about home form being massively important and after getting level at 1-1 the game was there for the taking. But they got a bit of luck with a deflected goal and then as we chased the game, they got in behind us.

The boss was a bit critical in his comments after the game and that's to be expected, after all we let in four goals. I think his main frustration was down to the fact that we failed to keep our shape. It's another lesson we must learn.

We'll be working on that and a lot more in training this week although not on Thursday as the manager has given us Christmas Day off.

I know it's a bit of a cliche that footballers all train on Christmas Day but I've never experienced that. Some managers I've worked with have given it off, while others have made us work.

It's not a nice feeling having to get up and go in when you know everyone else is opening presents with their family so it's a nice gesture from the manager. He's also got kids himself so I don't think he's too keen to go in either!

We're playing Manchester City on Boxing Day and it's amazing to see them sitting in the bottom three of the league at the moment.

It can only be a problem with confidence at Eastlands as there's no doubts about the ability of the players they have there. They're a wounded animal at the moment and with Mark Hughes knowing another defeat could possibly lead to him being sacked it's going to be a very tough game down there.

Finally I see my name has been linked with a few clubs again and I suppose that's inevitable with the transfer window about to open.

As I've always said I want to play football at Hull, but if the boss brings in another striker in the window then I'll obviously have to look at it again. Will I be here in February? Who can tell at the moment.

But that's all in the future, for the moment I'd like to wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year.
