Dean Windass goal v Portsmouth

Nov 25th: Of course it was my goal!

The Hull bandwagon rolls on after a fantastic draw at Portsmouth and I’m really pleased to say that I finally played a full part in it.

After a frustrating seven or eight weeks I was given time on the pitch to try and change the game and I think that’s exactly what I did.

I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that I’m claiming the goal that earned us a draw at Fratton Park. The way I see it is that if I wouldn’t have headed the ball towards goal, it wouldn’t have hit Noe Pamarot’s head and gone in.

It’s like if a player shoots and it gets deflected in, the attacker is still given the goal and I can’t see any difference here.

However, if the goals panel decide it’s not mine then I’m old enough and have scored enough goals to accept it and move on. Earning the draw and getting a point to take back to Hull was far more important for me.

I saw the boss say during the week that it was my attitude that has impressed him the most this season and I took it as a real compliment.

I won’t lie and say it’s been easy these last few months but I’ve got my head down and kept on training and just waited for the call. Every reserve game or training match I’ve played in I’ve scored and now it’s paying off. I’ve got my foot in the door and given the manager a tough decision to make.

As I keep saying, I only ever want to play for Hull City. I’ve turned down four clubs these past few weeks to stay and fight for my place and it seems the tables have now turned. I could have sulked but I didn’t. I bit the bullet and have got the reward.

It was another great team performance on Saturday and you can really see how the team is developing.

At the start of the season some of the younger guys who’d never played in the Premier League before looked a bit hesitant, but not any more. They know they can compete with the best and it’s showing in the performances.

It will be a bit like the old days when we take on Stoke at the Britannia on Saturday and we must be ready for a physical battle.

Everyone knows how they play and how much they rely on Rory Delap’s throw-ins and we will be working on defending against them in training this week. But the key to these sort of matches is to play your own game. If we defend well and then get the ball down and play I think we’ll be all right.

Another good away performance will keep our little unbeaten run going and then it’s all back to the KC for the clash with Middlesbrough. I can’t wait!
