Dean Windass - Hull City

Oct 28th: Bring on the Blues

It’s a top-of-the-table clash on Wednesday night when Chelsea visit the KC Stadium, and I’m convinced Big Phil Scolari and his team will not be relishing their trip north.

We rode our luck in the first half against West Brom on Saturday, but after some stern words from the manager at half-time the boys went out and were superb. The Hawthorns is never an easy place to go, so to come away with a 3-0 win was a great achievement.

We know Chelsea have got world-class players but facing the likes of them is the reason we got into football in the first place. We’ll be up for it and be right in their faces and I’m convinced we can take something out of the game. Let’s face it, we’ve got nothing to lose.

With the points we’ve already got this season, we’re under no pressure against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United so we can go out there and have a real go. And with the form we’re in, who’s to say we can’t match what Liverpool did against the Blues on Sunday?

I’m still not getting a look-in for starting spot, which is fair enough when the team are doing so well. As the manager says, it’s the players who pick the team. Once they're in possession of the shirt it’s up to them to keep it: and I’m certainly not the only one who's getting frustrated on the bench.

However I’m still desperate to play and I turned out in a friendly on Monday and scored a goal. One of those watching was Leeds manager Gary McAllister who I spoke to both before and after the game.

I want to make it clear that my priority is still to get back in the Hull team, but if Phil Brown tells me I can go, Leeds would definitely be a club I’d consider joining. I’ve known Gary for a long time and respect him both as a footballer and for the job he’s doing at Elland Road.

Bradford also made an enquiry about me last week, but I think they couldn’t afford to pay Hull’s wages. So I’m still here and still battling for my place which is what I’ve always said I will do until told otherwise.

Finally, I’d like to thank the 3,000 or so fans who turned up to see me open the new club shop in the city on Monday. It meant a lot to me to see so many people and it proved again how big this club is - hopefully we can get even bigger.
