Tuesday’s defeat to Scunthorpe once again showed up Oldham’s inconsistency away from home and we’re going to need to get this sorted if we want to stay in the promotion race.

We bounced back brilliantly from our 5-0 stuffing at Hereford by beating Stockport on Saturday, but then spoilt it with the performance at Edgeley Park. I have to say it’s becoming quite frustrating.

Experienced players like myself know that one pitch is pretty much like any other, but it’s the younger lads in the team who seem to be finding it harder.

Our manager John Sheridan says it’s a mental thing and I’d probably agree. When you play at home you’re always on the front foot taking the game to the opposition, but it’s different on the road and it’s something we have to overcome.

Fair play to Scunny, they played some nice football and probably deserved the win, but if we’re going to continue to challenge for promotion we need to start winning away games.

Luckily we’ve got two homes games in a row next which should get us back on track, and it would nice if I could open my account in one of them as well. I’m playing a little deeper at the moment so am getting fewer chances but it would be nice to put one away soon.

I’m obviously still keeping an eye on how Hull are doing and think they’ve made a great signing in Jimmy Bullard from Fulham.

It shows the ambition there is at the club and if he can help them stay in the Premier League this season I’m sure others like Jimmy will want to come to the KC Stadium.

One player going the other way is Marlon King who has joined Wigan. It’s easy to say that if I’d stayed around longer Marlon’s departure would have opened the way up for me, but it doesn’t work like that – for a start Phil Brown’s brought Manucho in from Manchester United.

Football’s all about ifs and buts and as I always said I never wanted to leave Hull but my hand was forced. That hasn’t stopped me being a fan though and like all City fans I hope they can snap out of this run they are in and secure the points they need to stay up.
