March 9: Not guilty

I've seen in one of the tabloids today that I was involved in a punch-up with my Oldham team-mates. Two words - not true!

The incident is supposed to have happened on a team night out at the Belle Vue Dog Track but it was news to me as at the time I was at home with my wife who was about to go into hospital for an operation.

I'm disappointed that my name has been linked with the incident as I eventually want to go into management and these sort of stories will make chairmen think again about employing me.

After last week's events I've sorted things out with manager John Sheridan and things are back to normal. I said my piece and he gave me his views and now things are fine.

But they were far from rosy on the pitch at the weekend after we lost at home to Colchester. After the match Shezza came out and said some harsh things in the press and to be fair he was absolutely right. I don't know what it was but we were nowhere near our best and John said nothing in the press that he didn't say in the dressing room.

First and foremost we let our supporters down. Our home form has been good since I joined the club but this just wasn't up to standard. If we are serious about staying in the play-off positions we cannot perform like that again. As players we need to look ourselves in the mirror and ask if you played your best.

As is the way in football, we have a great chance to put things right next Saturday when we visit MK Dons. It's a huge game for us and Shezza and the fans will be expecting a good performance. I'm sure we will produce it.
