Hull celebrate Geovanni's goal against Spurs

Oct 6th: It's all about confidence

There's seven games gone and Hull are third in the Premier League - unbelievable! We've gone to the Emirates and won and just a week later we went back to north London and beat Tottenham with another wonder goal. It's fantastic.

The game at Spurs was all about one team who are full of confidence playing a team who are very low at the moment. They haven't become a bad group of players overnight, but we knew that if we contained them, or even scored an early goal like we did, they would struggle to lift themselves and get back into it.

I don't like singling out players but Michael Turner and Andy Dawson were sensational. Daws has had to deal with Theo Walcott one week and Aaron Lennon the next and has come out on top both times, I think he needs the rest this week more than most.

And of course the other hero at Spurs was Geovanni who smashed in a great free-kick. I was more amazed than most as when he practices them in training he's useless!

Just as he was about to take it I told the lads on the bench that he should just smash it because it's so hard to get these balls up and down. So I was delighted to see he didn't take my advice and bent a beauty right into the corner.

Much of our success has to go down to our manager Phil Brown and it's no surprise to see that he's been linked with the Newcastle job - although I'm also glad to see he's said he wants to stay with Hull.

I admire Phil not as a gaffer but as a friend and when I discussed my future with him last week it was like two friends talking. He could have bailed out and gone with Sam Allardyce to Newcastle, especially when things didn’t work out at Derby, but he had another go with Hull and is getting all the success he deserves.

As for my future, not much has changed since last week. It's a big challenge staying mentally fit but I know I have to be ready as I've been in this game long enough to know things can change overnight.

Finally we're on a break this week as England are in action against Kazakhstan - a place I can hardly spell let alone give you any insight into. What I do know though is that like Hull City, the England boys will be full of confidence after that win in Croatia and that should filter through into a good win at Wembley.
