Craig Fagan Hull City

Sept 16th: Joy and pain

Make no mistake about it Hull’s win at Newcastle on Saturday was down to us being the better team, not the chaos which is currently engulfing St James’ Park.

We could tell from early on that the crowd seemed more focused on whether Mike Ashley and Dennis Wise were going to turn up than the game itself, but we still had to perform and we definitely deserved the victory.

I suppose most of the post-match talk was about the protests and the crowds, but to be honest we didn’t give a monkeys. We were the ones getting back on the bus with three points and that’s all that mattered.

The one dark cloud from the day was of course Craig Fagan’s broken leg which will see him miss the next three months.

It’s such a shame for the lad as he’s been flying this season. The boss moved him from the wing to centre forward on Saturday and he was scaring the living daylights out of the Newcastle defence.

The most annoying aspect of it all was that the tackle by Danny Guthrie was completely reckless and completely pointless. If he would have done that in the street he’d have been arrested.

It’s not even as if the game was still in the balance. We were in injury time and the ball was by their corner flag. The game was over but he still dived in with a stupid tackle. You can’t just go in and kick someone like that.

You could say it was his frustrations boiling over at the whole situation and that he’ll learn as it’s still young, but it was still a stupid thing to do.

Craig came into training today and I had a quiet word with him telling him he’s going to need to be patient as he works his way back to fitness, but it will be a very frustrating time for him.

We’re going into the game against Everton on Saturday with something to prove. The last time we were at home we got thumped 5-0 by Wigan and we owe our fans.

I think that game taught the lads a harsh lesson that you will get punished in this league if you’re not on your game at all times. We’ve learnt that lesson now and we’ll be at it from the start.

As always I’ll be hoping to get a game but I’m realistic enough to know that I’ll probably start on the bench. It’s a little frustrating as I obviously want to play as much as I can, but I’ve spoken to the boss and there’s no problems between us and he knows that when he wants to call on me I’ll be ready.
