Fabio Capello has revealed that Paul Scholes initially agreed to play for England at the World Cup, before changing his mind the following morning.
Scholes was approached by Capello's right-hand man Franco Baldini about coming out of international retirement last summer, but the Manchester United midfielder decided against the move.
Asked about the incident, Capello told ITV Sport's Gabriel Clarke: "It is up to him. Franco spoke with him and he decided. In the evening he said yes, and in the morning he said no.
"He said he is too old to play more games and more competitions. He prefers to be ok for Manchester United."
Capello also talks about how he copes with the criticism that has been hurled his way since England's World Cup exit and reveals why he did not celebrate either of England's goals in the win against Hungary last month.
