Russians keep a lid on expectations

Members of the Russian camp are refusing to get carried away despite their excellent 4-1 victory over the Czech Republic in Wroclaw tonight.

We musn't get lost in euphoria. Three days from now we have our next match. Our aim hasn't yet been reached, so we can't get settled.

– Roman Pavlyuchenko

Of course when you win 4-1 it gives you great confidence, all the players are feeling great...But this is just the start and we shouldn't jump to conclusions. We're happy with the game but we need to work and improve.

– Dick Advocaat

Great game that. Russki's look alright by the way. Peter Cech should have done a bit better for 3rd mind...

FT - Russia 4-1 Czech Republic

For a while in the middle of the game it looked like being a nervy finish, but in the end class really did tell - and has Alan Dzagoev just put down his marker for one of the players of the tournament? Brilliance from Arshavin too.

The Russians are now content just to knock it around. They've managed about 20 passes in a row - everyone's getting a touch - and though the crowd aren't happy, you bet Dick Advocaat will be beaming.
