Addicks build lead

Charlton extended their advantage at the top of npower League One to a commanding eight points courtesy of a 2-1 win over play-off chasing MK Dons.

The Dons had Gary MacKenzie sent off for a second yellow card in the 42nd minute, with the Addicks taking full advantage as Johnnie Jackson scored a rapid-fire brace before half-time, the first a penalty.

They did not add to that score, but Dean Bowditch did pull one back for the visitors three minutes from time.

Sheffield United went second, beating fourth-placed Huddersfield and leapfrogging city rivals Sheffield Wednesday, who were defeated 1-0 by Stevenage. Neill Collins scored the only goal for the Blades after just five minutes, while the Owls were undone by Scott Laird's effort on the stroke of half-time.

Yeovil beat hosts Wycombe 3-2 in an entertaining clash that saw Stuart Beavon and Joel Grant score for Wanderers and Andy Williams net twice in response. Substitute Kieran Agard claimed Town's third.

Scunthorpe moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 over Rochdale, Garry Thompson the scorer. Dale slipped to bottom of the standings after Chesterfield drew 1-1 at Bury.

Steven Schumacher denied Dale three points when he levelled Nicky Ajose's effort late on.

Substitute Danny Mayor handed the win to Preston against Hartlepool with a 76th-minute strike, while play-off hopefuls Carlisle were held to a goalless draw by visiting Tranmere.

Goals from Kevin Lisbie and Jimmy Smith either side of Marc Pugh's effort gave Leyton Orient a 2-1 success at Bournemouth, with Steven Gillespie striking in the 83rd and 85th minutes to see Colchester to the same result against Brentford, who went ahead through Niall McGinn.

Lee Hughes and Jeff Hughes both found the net as Notts County defeated Exeter 2-1, Scott Bennett with their response.
