On-loan Watford winger Tom Cleverley says he is ready to play for the Manchester United first team.

Cleverley has been a revelation for the Hornets this season and reckons he is ready to challenge Antonio Valencia and Nani for a starting berth at Old Trafford.

"Yeah, I think I'm ready for the Premier League," he said.

"I've been watching the games and I don't think United have hit their best form.

"And I look at the people playing in my position and think, why not? I think I could step up.

"My best chance is on one of the wings. Straight into the team might be a bit ambitious but as a squad player I'd give energy, pace and hopefully some goals."

And after scoring in the 2-0 win against Preston, Cleverley added: "I'm sending out a message to Manchester United and with performances like that, Watford can send out a message to the rest of the league. We can get into the play-off mix if we keep performing like that."
