Fear holding Wednesday back - McAuley

Fear holding Wednesday back - McAuley

Sheffield Wednesday caretaker manager Sean McAuley felt his side showed fear as their losing streak stretched to five Championship games against Swansea.

McAuley, who was installed as temporary boss after Brian Laws was sacked last weekend, looked on as Paulo Sousa's men eased to a comfortable 2-0 win at Hillsborough.

Two first-half goals from midfielder Darren Pratley, both wonderfully crafted, sealed the points and left Wednesday without a win in 10 games and a goal in six. And with a relegation battle on their hands, McAuley knows his men have to toughen up.

"I feel for the players, they are in a bad position at the minute and there is a fear and a lack of belief," he said.

"I believe anything can be achieved if everybody is playing to their potential. I think the ability in the squad are quite good but at this moment in time they are definitely not playing to their potential levels.

"They are not pushing the boundaries and I think that is because of fear."
