Jim Magilton was delighted with the manner of QPR's 2-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday after they held off a determined fightback from the hosts.
Jay Simpson gave the Hoops a 10th-minute lead, firing beyond keeper Lee Grant after latching onto a great through ball from Abel Taarabt, but Jermaine Johnson struck a equaliser just three minutes later after being sent clear by Darren Potter. Both sides then came close during an entertaining encounter before Kaspars Gorkss snatched a late winner for the visitors, meeting Alejandro Faurlin's corner with a firm near-post header.
"It was a real test of grit and determination so it's a nice win for us," said Magilton. "We knew we were going to be under the cosh."
He added: "I thought Sheffield Wednesday really pressed and they deservedly got back on track. We were under an awful lot of pressure.
"We've been praised for playing expansive football this season so it was good to see us have to dig in and battle. We're still very much a work in progress."
