Gunners tie down Eduardo

Arsenal v Standard Liege key battles

Arsenal need just a draw against Standard Liege at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow night to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League. Here we ssess where the match might be won and lost.

Eduardo v Mohamed Sarr

With Robin van Persie sidelined by an ankle problem, Croatia striker Eduardo - whose goal completed Arsenal's comeback in their opening Group H match in Belgium - looks set to again lead the Gunners' attack.

However, even though he was off form in the defeat at Sunderland on Saturday and has not found the net with Arsenal since that European tie in mid-September, Eduardo is sure to give experienced Senegal centre-back Sarr - who learned his trade at AC Milan - plenty of concern.

Cesc Fabregas v Axel Witsel

Arsenal captain Fabregas is central to the link with the frontline, and continues to enjoy more freedom while flanked by defensive-minded Alex Song. The Spain international, who scored twice in the last European tie, also has shown his eye for goal, and is the club's joint-leading scorer with nine.

Belgian international Witsel has just returned from a lengthy ban following his horror tackle in the game against Anderlecht, and will be the man expected to stop Arsenal's quick-passing game.

Thomas Vermaelen v Dieumerci Mbokani

Belgium international Vermaelen was Arsenal's only buy of the summer, and so far has looked a bargain at £10million. The former Ajax centre-back has settled in quickly with William Gallas at the heart of the backline, and has also proved a threat from set-plays.

With Serbia striker Milan Jovanovic not travelling because of injury, Liege are likely to deploy Congo forward MBokani - who scored in their win over Olympiacos last time out - as the lone frontman, and he will have his work cut out if the visitors are to keep alive their hopes of qualification.
