England's final World Cup qualifier against Belarus tonight will see the fight for places on the plane to South Africa well and truly begin.
If this morning's papers are to be believed boss Fabio Capello is set to make a whole heap of changes as he puts some of the lesser lights of his squad under the microscope - and it could be make or break for many.
Perhaps under most pressure will be Ben Foster who looks likely to start in goal with Rob Green suspended and David James struggling with a knee injury.
This could be the Manchester United player's final chance to impress the Italian after a somewhat rocky start to the season at Old Trafford.
Although England are hardly blessed with a plethora of top-drawer keepers at the moment, Capello will only take three next summer and a less-than-convincing performance by Foster tonight could let Paul Robinson or Joe Hart in.
What will probably make it more difficult for Foster is that he's likely to be a spectator for most of the match as England control possession. So any slip ups when he does have something to do will be highly noticeable.
While the back four is likely to have a familiar feel about it as Capello keeps faith with Rio Ferdinand, speed merchants Aaron Lennon and Shaun Wright-Phillips are set to be let loose in midfield.
Tottenham's Lennon has been England's most improved performer this season and even looked dangerous in the opening minutes against Ukraine before he was sacrificed following Green's sending off. He's pretty much first-choice on the right wing leading some to suggest David Beckham could be struggling to make the squad.
With Gareth Barry moving inside to replace Steven Gerrard, the way is opened up for Wright-Phillips to make an impression. The Manchester City star has performed well in Mark Hughes' new-look side this season and it will be up to him to show Capello that if he ever needs to play with out-and-out wingers he is the man to select alongside Lennon.
Up front Capello is clearly looking at a second, if not third choice starting partnership with Peter Crouch and Gabriel Agbonlahor leading the line.
Despite his poor scoring record and his demotion to the bench tonight Emile Heskey remains Capello's first choice to start alongside Wayne Rooney, while West Ham's Carlton Cole seems also to be ahead of at least Agbonlahor in Capello's mind.
Crouch and Agbonlahor will need to do something spectacular tonight if they are to change Capello's mind and not to be written off as a one-time experiment.
After tonight's qualifier, England's final game of the year is against Brazil in Qatar and Capello is sure to want to name a full-strength squad for such a prestigious match.
So for many in tonight's team this could be their last chance to impress until early next year and who knows what will have changed by then.
