Stourbridge manager Gary Hackett was left with mixed emotions as their first ever FA Cup first round match ended in a 1-0 defeat to Walsall.

Steve Jones netted the only goal of the game in the first half while Darren Byfield had an effort ruled out for offside after the break.

But Hackett said: ``I'm immensely proud and in some ways disappointed for the right reasons. They've given it one heck of a go - I think their keeper has probably had a bit more to do than ours and we're disappointed this adventure has ended."

He added: ``You think before, you are playing a League One side and you don't want to be embarrassed, and we were far from that.

``Losing 1-0 is disappointing, because over the context of how we played we deserved something out of it and that is the bitter disappointment.''

Walsall boss Chris Hutchings added: ``I thought Stourbridge fought right to the bitter end and did very very well.

``But we're the ones that have got through and that's what we've come to do. I thought it was quite professional what we did and how we went about it.

``I said to the lads, we don't want any moaning and groaning, we come in here to do a job.

``We want to get in, get out and get home, and that's what we've done.''
