After seeing off Peterborough 4-0 in the third round at home, Spurs found United conquerors Leeds a different proposition in round four. A thrilling 2-2 draw at the Lane capped with an injury-time Jermaine Beckford penalty meant a replay at Elland Road, where Jermain Defoe showed his class with a clinical hat-trick.
Trotters nemesis Kevin Davies put Bolton in front in the fifth-round tie at the Reebok, only for Defoe to level. Tom Huddlestone's late penalty was saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen seeing the two teams head to the Lane, where Roman Pavlyuchenko, two OGs and a second from the Russian saw Spurs stroll into the quarters.
Fulham welcomed Spurs to Craven Cottage for the sixth round, an uneventful 0-0 draw followed by a cracking replay which saw the Cottagers go 1-0 up thanks to Lane old boy Bobby Zamora. Harry Redknapp's substitutions, though, turned the match on its head, David Bentley, Pavlyuchenko and Eidur Gudjohnsen sealing a semi spot.
