Dan Cleverley's dream of leading his Paulton Rovers side out against Norwich in the FA Cup is in severe doubt.
The 26-year-old has not played for three weeks after suffering a metatarsal injury against Windsor and Eton in the FA Trophy.
And he will have to wait until a fitness test on the morning of the game to discover whether he can take part in the game.
The skipper's condition was said to be improved by Wednesday night and he may well have a pain-killing injection before the end of the week in a bid to be fit.
Should he not make the starting XI, former Team Bath midfielder Phil Waters will continue in midfield where he has deputised for Cleverley in recent weeks.
But club secretary Andy Harris hopes Rovers' captain will make it
"If it is possible he will be there," said Harris, who is anticipating an historic day for the club.
"It is fantastic. Everybody thinks about the financial side but long term it is also important to get new sponsors and attract fans and players," he said.
"The ground will be packed and the majority will be Rovers supporters.
"We have a chance. There is always a shock, so why not us."
Norwich manager Paul Lambert will be without goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
Forster is unavailable to play in the competition under the terms of his loan spell from Newcastle, so academy product Declan Rudd will come in for his third start for the Canaries.
Lambert has ruled out resting any players and intends to field a full-strength side at the home of the Zamaretto Southern League side.
Right-backs Michael Spillane (hamstring), Jon Otsemobor (hamstring) and George Francomb (thigh) could all again be missing so Adam Drury will fill in with midfielder Simon Lappin taking his place at left-back.
Midfielder Matt Gill made his first start picking up a knee injury in August at Stockport last week and limped off with a calf injury, which will put him back on the sidelines.
Stephen Hughes is out as he recovers from a thigh problem while Wales international Owain Tudur Jones is in contention.
Tudur Jones was an unused substitute last week and could feature after recovering from a calf problem.
