Reading v Aston Villa

Long in line for return

Reading boss Brian McDermott will be boosted by the return of striker Shane Long for the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Aston Villa.

The Republic of Ireland international has missed the last four games through suspension after he was sent off in the fifth-round draw with West Brom but he may have to make do with a place on the bench due to the Royals' recent good form.

Winger Jobi McAnuff is suspended, however, while on-loan Blackburn defender Zurab Khizanishvili is cup-tied and will miss out.

Midfielders Jem Karacan (hand) and Kalifa Cisse (dead leg) remain sidelined as McDermott's side look to cause another cup upset after already knocking out Liverpool and Burnley.

Aston Villa central defender Richard Dunne is set to be fit.

The Republic Of Ireland international missed his country's midweek encounter with Brazil after suffering a leg injury in the Carling Cup final setback against Manchester United.

Boss Martin O'Neill has no fresh major injury worries as his side aim to stop Reading adding a third Premier League scalp after their wins over Liverpool and Burnley in the competition.

Skipper Stiliyan Petrov and defender James Collins did not train on Friday but came through midweek games for Bulgaria and Wales unscathed.

O'Neill is anticipating Villa having to pull out all the stops to overcome revitalised Reading as they look to bounce back from their Carling Cup final loss against Manchester United.

The Royals will be aiming for a third Premier League scalp in the competition, having already overcome Liverpool and Burnley.

O'Neill said: "Reading have done very well. Brian McDermott has stepped in there as manager and revitalised them.

"I think the game itself will be very difficult, as every bit as difficult, if not more, than against Crystal Palace in the last round. You saw how difficult that tie was for us.

"But, if ever there was an incentive to get back to Wembley again, last Sunday should be it. There was disappointment at the time and it is exactly the same feeling."

Central defender Richard Dunne should be fit after missing the Republic Of Ireland's friendly with Brazil in midweek with a leg injury.
