Melchiot doubt for Wigan

Wigan captain Mario Melchiot remains an injury doubt ahead of the Latics' FA Cup fourth-round replay against Notts County.

Melchiot missed Saturday's defeat against Everton with a neck problem that he sustained in the previous match at Blackburn, and could still be sidelined for the visit of League Two County to the DW Stadium.

Maynor Figueroa took a stud to the foot towards the end of the Everton game and is rated as 50-50 to play.

Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is still recovering from his collarbone injury and is not expected back until the weekend at the earliest, while Steven Gohouri faces a late fitness test after picking up a hamstring problem.

New signing Victor Moses will have to wait for his Wigan debut as he is cup-tied, having already appeared for Crystal Palace in the competition this season.

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez believes the capture of Moses represents a major statement of intent about the club's ambitions for the future.

Moses, 19, completed his move from Crystal Palace on Monday for an undisclosed fee after signing a three-and-a-half-year contract at the DW Stadium.

The England Under-19 striker had been courted by a number of clubs in the Barclays Premier League and Coca-Cola Championship and there was even rumoured to be interest from Real Madrid.

But it was Wigan - currently 14th in the top flight and just two points above the relegation zone - who won the race for Moses' signature, something Martinez thinks gives a clear indication of how the Latics intend to move forward.

"I think it is very important because the player has chosen to come to us," Martinez said.

"He is a very mature young man and he knows exactly what he wants. He wants to know about the future plans for the football club and his role at the club, so for him to choose Wigan Athletic is fantastic news for our fans.

"It shows that we have a short-term aim to stay in the Premier League but a future plan as well.

"He is one of the most talented young footballers that we have got in the British game, so to be able to work with him and have a player that relies on his talent to be effective on the football pitch is very exciting news for Wigan.

"Those players don't appear too often. For us to be able to invest on Victor, I think it is clear, the determination of where we want to be as a football club."

The next opportunity for Moses to feature is the Latics' league trip to Sunderland on Saturday and Martinez confirmed it would not be long before the teenager saw some first-team action with his new club.

He said: "We'll have a look - I want to see him in the group, I want to see him fitness-wise and we will take it from there. But this month, he is going to be involved with us."

Notts County are monitoring Ricky Ravenhill`s fitness ahead of the game.

The tough-tackling midfielder was forced off after half-an-hour of the 2-0 home win over Barnet on Saturday with concussion.

"He had to come off with a head injury. He was a bit concussed and felt sick, so we will have to see how he goes," said caretaker boss Dave Kevan.

Jamie Clapham, Ravenhill`s replacement against the Bees, or Craig Westcarr will come into the side should the 29-year-old miss out.

Defender Graeme Lee and striker Luke Rodgers returned to the squad at the weekend after injury and should be included once again.

The winner of the tie will travel to Fulham in the sixth round on February 14.
