York will be without Djoumin Sangare for their FA Cup first round tie against Crewe.
Sangare, who has put in several good performances at the heart of City`s defence, has been ruled out for a month with a groin injury.
York are still recovering from the after effects of a virus which swept through the club last week and ruled several players out of the match against Crawley last Saturday.
Defender David McGurk was one of the worst hit, but he has trained this week and should be available for selection.
There was also a boost for manager Martin Foyle after Oxford agreed to extend the loan spell of wing-back Chris Carruthers and he will be eligible to play this weekend, but striker Michael Gash remains sidelined with a foot injury.
Crewe have been given the green light to hand Steve Phillips his debut at KitKat Crescent.
The goalkeeper joined Alex on a three-month loan from Bristol Rovers this week and looks set to go straight into the team after the Pirates had no objection to him being cup-tied.
That is despite Adam Legzdins and Steve Collis still being on the books at Gresty Road. Legzdins will feel hard done by after he kept his second clean sheet of the season in the 4-0 victory at Cheltenham last weekend.
However, caretaker boss Dario Gradi wants an experienced head in goal to tighten up a defence that has suffered from the chopping and changing of keepers behind them this season.
Another loan player Simon Walton will also get the nod if Steven Schumacher (groin) fails to prove his fitness. The Plymouth playmaker would partner James Bailey in midfield.
Former York striker Clayton Donaldson may have to settle for a place on the bench against his old club with Shaun Miller being preferred to partner leading scorer Calvin Zola.
