African qualifying for the World Cup is going into extra time after an extraordinary night in the Egyptian captial Cairo.

The Pharohs went into their final game against bitter rivals Algeria knowing a 3-0 win would send them to South Africa, while a 2-0 victory would force a play-off against their neighbours.

And in a tense and hostile atmoshpere, the hosts got off to a dream start when former Wigan striker Amir Zaki put them ahead after two minutes.

However, despite constant pressure the Algerian held firm until the fifth minute of second-half injury time when Emad Moteab headed home.

The two sides now meet again on Wednesday in Sudan to decide who will go through.

Elsewhere, Nigeria were celebrating their qualification after victory over Kenya, coupled with a shock defeat for Tunisia against Mozambique, saw the Super Eagles through.

A goal from former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins, his second of the game, settled the match seven minutes from time, while Everton hitman Yakubu was also on the scoresheet.

Cameroon secured their sixth appearance in the finals after goals from Pierre Webo and Samuel Eto'o gave them a 2-0 win over Morocco.

The victory was the fourth in a row for new coach Paul Le Guen who took over the Indomitable Lions when they were bottom of their qualifying group.
