Final thoughts still far ahead - McaPherson

MacPherson confident goals will come

St Mirren boss Gus MacPherson remains confident that his side will soon hit the goal trail.

A goalless draw against Motherwell at on Tuesday night took the Buddies four points clear of bottom side Falkirk, but it was a familiar tale of missed chances for the Paisley side who have now gone 10 Clydesdale Bank Premier League games without a win.

"I am disappointed that we didn't capitalise on the chances we had but we have to keep plugging away," MacPherson said.

"Motherwell are the form team at the moment and we created three or four good chances against them and so we are frustrated that we didn't take them.

"We've got belief and confidence because we are doing a lot of the right things. But the hardest part of the game is turning opportunities in to goals.

"However, if we can do that then we will be okay and I'm confident that we can."

Motherwell manager Craig Brown watched his side extend their unbeaten run in the SPL to 11 games but blamed himself for the poor performance.

The visitors barely created a chance worthy of the name and the former Scotland boss put it down to using the 3-5-2 tactics he employed with the national team.

Brown, who took Scotland to the 1998 World Cup in France, said: "I think least said, soonest mended. I don't want to have too many thoughts about the game because I can't be too enthusiastic in the way we played.

"Sometimes when you get a point like that you are a bit embarrassed. When you see a first-half performance like that you say 'My God'. But I take responsibility for that. I asked the players to play a shape with which they are not familiar and it wasn't to match up to St Mirren."
