Referee Michael Oliver said his decision to postpone Stockport's home clash with Swindon was because of his safety fears for the players.
Despite passing a pitch inspection on Tuesday morning, Oliver assessed the playing surface on his arrival at and decided it was unsafe.
"There is a large sanded area in the middle of the pitch," he said. "Because of the recent rain, the sand on top of that is churning up all the time and would cause an obvious danger to players."
Oliver added: "I discussed it with managers Gary Ablett and Danny Wilson as soon as they arrived, so we made it as soon as we possibly could."
