Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope hailed the impact of new signing Pat Baldwin as Rovers kept themselves in the thick of the League One play-off race with a 2-1 win over Gillingham.
The 27-year-old loan-recruit from Colchester United used his experience to organise the defence from right-back as well as making a solid contribution himself.
And Trollope said: ``We are quiet as a team so I encouraged Pat to communicate with the other players, which come naturally to him."
He added: ``You can see that his has captained a side and he made his presence felt. We looked better defensively, having done a lot of work on the training ground.''
Chris Lines shot Rovers ahead from 10 yards in the 16th minute after Chris Dickson's overhead kick had been saved, only for Andy Barcham to conjure up a fine equaliser five minutes before the break.
The Gillingham midfielder cut in from the left onto his right foot and curled a 25-yard shot over goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen.
It took a needless handball by Gills defender Matt Fry on 81 minutes to give Rovers the points.
The offence, while Fry was lying on the ground near the bye-line, was spotted by a linesman and Jeff Hughes netted confidently with the resulting penalty.
Gills boss Mark Stimson said: ``That linesman gave more decisions than the referee on the day. Unfortunately when we had a great penalty shout in the first half it was on the other linesman's side.
``We got ourselves back into the game with a great goal and I was pretty confident at half time that we could go on to win. But we didn't pass the ball as well as we can with the wind in our favour and couldn't create many chances."
