New Aldershot boss Kevin Dillon has named Gary Owers as his assistant.

Dillon took charge at the League Two club on Monday after leaving his role as Reading number two, following Gary Waddock`s departure from the Recreation Ground last month.

Dillon said: "I've known Gary for over 20 years from the days where he was at Sunderland and I was at Newcastle, we have a lot in common. Gary is a proper grafter and has gained extensive experience not just as a player but also in management, coaching and on the academy side too. I am looking forward to working with him."

Owers, 41, made more than 600 senior appearances, spending the bulk of his career at Sunderland where he was part of the 1992 FA Cup side that lost to Liverpool in the final.
