Cobblers without midfield trio

Northampton are without midfielders Kevin Thornton, Luke Guttridge and John Curtis for the visit of bottom-side Darlington.

Thornton (knee), Guttridge (ankle) and Curtis (calf) all picked up injuries in a midweek reserve game and will miss out against the Quakers as Ian Sampson's side look to keep up the pressure on the play-off pack.

Striker Steve Guinan has joined in with light training after three months out with a groin injury but is not yet ready for the first-team while winger Andy Holt (knee) is also still out.

Goalkeeper Chris Dunn is also sidelined with a knee problem so on-loan Middlesbrough keeper Jason Steele will keep his place.

Striker Adebayo Akinfenwa is looking to score for the fifth game in a row.

Darlington's latest new signing Chris Moore is expected to start on the substitutes' bench.

The 26-year-old winger, who has signed a deal until the end of the season, joined this week from Northern League side Whitley Bay.

Moore is the third player to be plucked from the Northern League by manager Steve Staunton following the arrivals of Nathan Mulligan and Gary Waite, who joined from Norton and Spennymoor respectively.

Staunton will be without defender Stuart Giddings due to a groin injury but is hoping Richie Byrne can shake off a hamstring strain in time to fill in at left-back.

The former Leeds coach has no other new injury or suspension problems but veteran striker Noel Whelan (hamstring), defender Mark Bower (ankle) and Chris Lumsdon (knee) remain sidelined.
