Billy Mehmet is happy to put talks over his future on ice as he tries to help St Mirren emerge from the big freeze clear of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League drop zone.

Striker Mehmet, 26 on Sunday, has become free to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club, with his Saints deal set to expire in the summer. But the former Dunfermline hitman has not given any thought to where he might be next season as he focuses on ensuring his current employers steer well clear of the final-day drama that engulfed them last term.

"I'll just wait and see what happens," Mehmet said of his future, revealing he had yet to hold talks with the club over extending his four-and-a-half-year stay.

"Nothing's been said yet and I just get on with my football. Whatever happens happens.

"I'm not really looking into that yet."

Mehmet's bid to help the Buddies increase the two-point gap to rock-bottom Falkirk has been scuppered in the past week after the cold snap claimed fixtures against Aberdeen and Hamilton.

The club have been doing everything they can to ensure Saturday's match with Kilmarnock goes ahead.

"Obviously, it's frustrating, especially where we are in the league," Mehmet said of the postponements.

"We wanted the games to be on and to try to pick up some points because we had a lot of home games that we felt were winnable.

"We've just got to go into the game against Kilmarnock on Saturday and hopefully pick the three points up."
