St Mirren v Hibernian

Mair back for St Mirren

St Mirren defender Lee Mair returns from suspension for the Clydesdale Bank Premier League clash with Hibernian at St Mirren Park.

Striker Craig Dargo has recovered from the shoulder problem that saw him miss the last four games and Allan Johnston is over the groin injury that forced him out of the last two matches and both will be assessed before the game.

Mo Camara, who has been sidelined since August, is back following knee surgery but nowhere near fit enough for the visit of the Easter Road side.

St Mirren keeper Paul Gallacher is not too downhearted about his Scotland prospects despite the possible return of Allan McGregor to the international fold.

The former Dundee United and Norwich City player was drafted into the squad for the friendly against Wales in Cardiff last week, after winning the last of his eight caps in a 1-0 win in Estonia in May 2004.

George Burley sent for Gallacher after number one Craig Gordon pulled out with a fractured arm but David Marshall played in the 3-0 defeat with Jamie Langfield on the bench.

After Burley was sacked on Monday, SFA chief executive Gordon Smith revealed that his replacement would be free to pick Rangers keeper McGregor, who, along with Barry Ferguson, was banned from representing Scotland after flicking V-signs at photographers during April's World Cup qualifier against Iceland.

Gallacher, 30, accepts that the goalkeeping position is one in which Scotland is particularly strong at the moment.

"I think there are three friendlies before the next championship qualifiers kick-off," he said.

"When a new man comes in and if I'm playing well and I get in then, I will be absolutely delighted.

"But at the moment there are three goalkeepers ahead of me.

"It was because Craig Gordon got injured that I got back in the squad but nevertheless I was back in and it was something that I didn't think would happen again.

"Of course it would be tougher for me if Allan came back," Gallacher continued. "So if I'm lucky enough to get back in the squad I will be delighted."

Gallacher is looking forward to the visit of Hibernian to St Mirren Park where, if the home side win and Aberdeen lose at Motherwell, Gus MacPherson's side will ease in to sixth spot in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

He said: "It will be a tough game.

"Hibs are playing some great football, they have great strikers and score fantastic goals.

"But we are looking forward to it and hopefully we can get in the top six and stay there."

Hibernian hope Liam Miller and Merouane Zemmama will recover from injuries in time to feature in the game.

Midfielders Miller (calf) and Zemmama (groin) were forced to miss crucial qualifying matches for the Republic of Ireland and Morocco, respectively, in the past week.

Hibs boss John Hughes will assess the fitness of defender Sol Bamba and Anthony Stokes, who were on international duty in midweek, while Kevin McCann's troublesome hamstring problem is set to keep him out for another three weeks.

Graham Stack was among the millions of Irishmen who spent Wednesday night screaming at the television and throwing the remote control around the living room.

And the Hibernian goalkeeper believes the only way he will get over Thierry Henry's handball against the Republic of Ireland will be taking three points at St Mirren.

The 28-year-old is one a handful of Irish players in Hibs' first-team squad who were devastated by France's World Cup play-off victory, with his team-mate Stokes actually in the Stade de France on Wednesday night.

Former Under-21 international Stack said: "I was at home watching it on the sofa; threw the controller a few times and woke the kids up from shouting at that TV.

"If it was Robbie Keane, would we be talking about it? Of course we wouldn't be talking about it.

"Ireland would be in the World Cup and we'd all be down the pub drinking Guinness.

"But, unfortunately, that's not the case; we're all drowning our sorrows."

He added: "I can't believe you get four linesmen in a Europa League game and you get a World Cup qualifier and you can't put the same refereeing strategy in place.

"Just bitter, really, bitter."

Stack reckons the way for him and his team-mates to get over the result is winning at St Mirren Park.

"That's probably the only thing that's going to cheer me up, if we go over there and win," he said.

Meanwhile, manager Hughes has confirmed he is running the rule over Iceland defender Haraldur Freyr, who has impressed during a week-long trial with the club.
