Wolves managerial contenders

With Mick McCarthy's tenure as Wolves manager over after five-and-a-half years, the club will be looking for a swift appointment to lead their fight against relegation. Here, we assesses the likely candidates.

STEVE BRUCE

Has a previous five-year spell in the midlands to his name with Birmingham, but was his stock is not too high after he was sacked as Sunderland manager earlier this season and replaced by Martin O'Neill.

NEIL WARNOCK

A similar pedigree to Bruce. Led QPR to promotion last season and enjoys a reputation as a motivational manager but was deemed surplus to requirements at Loftus Road last month.

DAVE JONES

Had a previous successful spell in charge at Molineux and is available after ending his reign at Cardiff following their failure to gain promotion to the Premier League last May.

ALAN CURBISHLEY

Built his reputation with Charlton over more than a decade in the top flight and also had a spell in charge at West Ham but been out of management in recent seasons. Has said he will talk to Wolves boss Steve Morgan if he gets the call.

RAFAEL BENITEZ

Used to challenging for the Champions League and being at the other end of the Premier League with Liverpool. An outsider to join a relegation fight.

GIANFRANCO ZOLA

A Chelsea legend as a player but less successful as a manager at West Ham and would be seen as a gamble in the current circumstances.

LEE CLARK

If Wolves decide to try for an up and coming manager, Huddersfield boss Clark could fit the bill. Has had some success at Huddersfield during the past two seasons but they remain in League One and a fire-fighting job at Molineux would be a big step up.

BILLY DAVIES

Available after leaving Nottingham Forest last summer and a motivational figure but more used to mounting promotion challenges.
