Xabi Alonso01
The ongoing saga - Xabi Alonso (Liverpool)
Sorry Liverpool fans, but after weeks of avoiding putting Xabi on the list we've had to relent mainly because the stories of a proposed move to Real Madrid keep on coming. Quite how he would fit into Los Merengues' new all-star line-up isn't quite clear but that small fact doesn't seem to be stopping Florentino Perez this summer.

Javier Mascherano02
Another Red departure - Javier Mascherano (Liverpool)
And turn away Reds fans again because here's another of your crown jewels who may be saying a big adios in the coming weeks. If it's been all Alonso to Real in some papers this week, then it's been Masch to Barca in all the others. The European champions offer of £25m may just be enough to tempt Liverpool to seal.

Eidur Gudjohnsen03
The returnee - Eidur Gudjohnsen (Barcelona)
The Ice Man returns... well, probably. Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen has been linked with a move back to Blighty pretty much ever since he realised his move to Barcelona was likely to include long stints on the bench. West Ham have been long-term admirers, probably because of the Iceland link, but Villa, Everton and Fulham are all also said to be interested.

Marc-Antoine Fortune04
A man in demand - Marc-Antoine Fortune (Nancy)
[His displays in the second-half of last season for doomed West Brom certainly didn't go unnoticed by others in the Premier League who are now fighting over his signature. Former Baggies boss Tony Mowbray is said to want him with him at new club Celtic, while everyone from West Ham, to Hull, to Sunderland have all been linked with the striker.

Marcus Berg05
The young upstart - Marcus Berg (Groningen)
Up until a month ago, very few had heard of the FC Groningen striker and, to be fair, few still have despite a couple of impressive performances at the European U21 Championships. Luckily for young Marcus, two people that have heard of him are North London neighbours Harry Redknapp and Arsene Wenger who are having a £10m "tussle" over the Swedish striker.

Patrick Vieira06
The star returnee - Patrick Vieira (Inter Milan)
Would Arsenal's former captain fantastic really leave Inter Milan for the Premier League? And with Birmingham? Well that's the rumour anyway and there's a cool £100,000 a week on offer to the France midfielder to help him make a decision. Now 33, the thought of one last big payday could possibly tempt him.

Lorik Cana07
Albania's finest - Lorik Cana (Marseille)
Another player caught up in a squabble between Tottenham and Arsenal, if Cana did move to the Premier League he would (probably, you may know different) be the first Albanian to play in our top-flight. He's currently the captain of Marseille and doing alright thank you very much, but if the Premier League calls (and Real Madrid aren't on the other line) then he should go.

Douglas Maicon08
The unlikely signing - Douglas Maicon (Inter Milan)
If a player from one of the two Milan clubs is being linked with the Premier League you can bet the name Chelsea isn't far behind. It seems Carlo Ancelotti is trying to build some kind of Milan Select XI at Stamford Bridge. Maicon is an impressive right-back for Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan and Dunga's Brazil. He appears happy at the San Siro and it's likely to stay that way.

Yuri Zhirkov09
The one with the nickname - Yuri Zhirkov (Russia)
Apparently he's known as the Russian Ronaldinho, not because he's got straggly hair and big teeth but because he does a fine impression of the Brazilian superstar when he has the ball at his feet. Chelsea are apparently on the verge of signing the full-back/winger but we've been hearing this for a few weeks now. We have a feeling he could be a revelation in the Premier League.

Obafemi Martins10
The Championship player - Obafemi Martins (Newcastle)
Rightly, players such as Martins should be left in the Championship to reflect on all the people they have let down over the years and fight to help their team return to the Premier League. Sadly, due to him having a tad more talent than his team-mates, Martins is set to leave Newcastle in the next couple of weeks to pick up more bumper wages (and a fat signing on fee) somewhere else. You just hope it's not your club.
