Vokes ready to make Premier League impact for Burnley

Sam Vokes has told Sean Dyche he is ready to play a full part in Burnley's fight for Premier League survival as soon as the Clarets boss needs him.

The striker's 20 goals were crucial in Burnley's unexpected promotion from the Championship last season but he missed the final few weeks after damaging cruciate knee ligaments in March.

It was great to be back. It was obviously a tough one to take with the result, going on how we played, but on a personal note it's nice to be back out on the pitch.

I've been itching to get back. It's been a long-term plan and it's coming together nicely. I got told to aim for the new year so nine months ago I'd probably have taken this.

I've got three or four 90 minutes under my belt now in the reserves and that's a big thing for me. Whenever the gaffer calls upon me, I'm ready.

West Brom boss Irvine won't shirk challenge

West Brom boss Alan Irvine will not shirk the challenge as he searches for the winning formula.

Pressure is growing on Irvine, at a club not renowned for its patience, as the Baggies' poor run of results continued with a 3-1 loss to Manchester City on Boxing Day.

It will be a very tough game at Stoke - it is a hard place to go. They are a team who are capable of causing you a lot of problems.

But we will do the work we normally do on them and hopefully that will get us a good result.

They had a good result against Everton and will be feeling good about that, so it is a big challenge - but if we can eradicate the individual errors then when are good enough to cause them problems.

All I can do is keep trying to do the job in the way I that I do it. I work extremely hard. I try to leave nothing to chance.

– Alan Irvine
