Louis Tomlinson takes a tumble on Donny debut

One Direction's Louis Tomlinson made his professional football debut for Doncaster reserves on Wednesday night, delighting over five thousand hardcore fans with his cameo appearance.

Tomlinson's 65th-minute arrival at right-back was greeted by a deafening ovation from the bumper 5,333 crowd - consisting mostly of die-hard 'Directioners' who had come from as far afield as Michigan and Mexico to watch their hero.

The pop prince had limited chances to showcase his footballing 'X Factor' and struck a bum note in the 89th minute of the 0-0 draw when he fell on his backside attempting a pass.

Tomlinson was raising funds as the patron of local charity Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

Macheda joins Doncaster

Doncaster have signed Manchester United striker Federico Macheda on an initial one-month loan deal.

Macheda, in the final year of his contract at United, watched Rovers' goalless draw with Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield from the directors' box at the John Smiths Stadium on Saturday and reported for training at the Sky Bet Championship club's Cantley Park complex on Monday morning.
